oh my godddddd there is a new swedish reality tv show where they are tracking down internet trolls and confronting them about the death threats they’ve sent to people, since it’s actually illegal.

watching them try to explain how it’s not them is the best entertainment i’ve ever seen.

this episode ended with them fining him 5000 SEK to be paid to the victim!

guess what America should do

in honor of Mean Girls’ 10th anniversary, here’s an incredibly subtle but completely extraordinary joke that you’ve probably never noticed from the movie (I saw it at least a dozen times before it dawned on me): Regina George started a rumor that Janis Ian was a lesbian in the 8th grade, but it wasn’t out of malice… it was because Janis told her that she was Lebanese

raptorific:

If you show me two shows:

  1. One features a pair of different-gender best friends who have explicitly and vocally defined their relationship as platonic
  2. The other features a pair of same-gender best friends who have explicitly and vocally defined their relationship as platonic, except sometimes passing acquaintances mistake them for a gay couple and at least one of them loudly and angrily insists that he’s not gay

And you asked me to identify, “which of these shows is going out of its way to be heteronormative,” I’m going to mark show #2 every time. I wouldn’t even need to know that the first show actually makes an effort to have the occasional canon gay or trans character. I would make this decision before I was told that show #2 has a character who identifies as a lesbian but is only ever shown falling in love with the male main character.

Now, if you told me that the two shows feature the same characters, except on show #1, more of them are women, people of color, and members of the LBGT+ community, there would be no doubt in my mind that show #2 was the one going out of its way to be heteronormative, as well as whitewashed, even though show #1 features two lead protagonists who happen to be different genders

Since, you know, both shows have made it explicitly clear that there’s nothing romantic between the two lead characters anyway and any assumption that something romantic is going on is just projected onto them

I didn’t grow up reading comic books. I didn’t have too much interest in them. It’s been kinda coincidental that I’ve made so many comic book films.
